Tilth Awards Scholarship
South Whidbey Tilth has awarded Sage Callahan of South Whidbey High School a scholarship for future studies in sustainable agriculture and environmental stewardship. A self-proclaimed biology nerd who grew up around gardening and farming, Sage was inspired by a course in agriculture to make a connection between the sciences of biology and geology and regenerative farming.
This fall, Sage will attend Pitzer College, a top-ranked liberal arts college that emphasizes environmental and interdisciplinary studies. Sage is excited to explore how regenerative farming and scientific studies will lead to work that helps shift agriculture towards mitigating climate change, supporting soil ecosystems and improving the planet’s biodiversity.
The scholarship funds come from the family of Thomas J. Roehl. South Whidbey Tilth encourages donations to fund this scholarship opportunity for future graduates from South Whidbey.
